A download failed
Ladle keeps your progress when a download fails, so retrying carries on where it stopped. Here’s how to find out what went wrong and fix it.

Retry it first
Section titled “Retry it first”Ladle already retried on its own before calling it a failure: 3 times out of the box, with a growing pause between tries. Your progress is saved, so a manual retry carries on where the download stopped.
-
Click Failed in Ladle’s sidebar to see failed downloads. Each one shows where it stopped and why, like “Stopped at 42% · the server stopped responding”.
-
Select the download and press ⌘R, or click Retry.
If it fails again, find the reason below.
Common reasons
Section titled “Common reasons”The server stopped responding, or your connection dropped
Section titled “The server stopped responding, or your connection dropped”Retry once your connection is back. If you’re on a Wi-Fi network that drops out, Ladle resumes after a network change on its own, as long as the server supports resuming.
The server asked Ladle to slow down
Section titled “The server asked Ladle to slow down”Some servers limit how many connections you can open, or how often. Ladle backs off on its own by halving its connections to that server and waiting as long as the server asks. If downloads from one site keep failing, lower Connections per download in Ladle › Settings › Speed, then retry. See Connections and speed limits.
The link expired
Section titled “The link expired”Many download links only work for a while, or only for the person who was signed in when they were made. If retrying doesn’t help, go back to the page you got the link from and start the download again. Starting it from your browser with Ladle’s extension on also passes along the sign-in the site needs.
There isn’t enough space
Section titled “There isn’t enough space”Ladle sets aside the file’s full size in its folder when the download starts. If the disk is nearly full, free up some space, or choose a different folder with Save downloads to in Ladle › Settings › Downloads, then retry.
A proxy, VPN or firewall is in the way
Section titled “A proxy, VPN or firewall is in the way”Ladle uses the proxy from your macOS network settings. If the download works in your browser but not in Ladle, check that your VPN or firewall app allows Ladle to connect.
Still failing?
Section titled “Still failing?”Ask on GitHub Issues. Include your Ladle version (from Ladle › About Ladle), your macOS version and the message Ladle shows. Issues are public, so leave out private download links.
